What effect(s) Sunni and Shi'a split have on the Umma?

    Well the answer to this is very simple and obvious. With that split came a lot of tension and a lot of hate. So with Islam split in two being inside of a group that tries to unify the people can only lead to big conflict. So it had a very negative affect, making the Umma essentially useless.
